Cillian Murphy's character in "Small Things Like These" is the most powerful depiction of "virtuous masculinity" I've seen
DISCLAIMER: I highly recommend watching the film before reading this thread and commenting on it.
I'm in awe of Murphy's character in Small Things Like These. He
- works hard
- is generous with his friends and colleagues
- has pain in his heart from childhood trauma but rather than feel sorry for himself, he tries to pay forward any kindness he has received
- protects and provides for his loved ones
- has compassion with those less fortunate than him
- does the morally right thing despite overwhelming cost and risk to himself
It's a quiet but intensely profound film and it has deeply impressed and inspired me.
