What was the first New Wave song?

I often see X Offender by Blondie or Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads thrown around as the first example of New Wave music. I know the origins of the genre can be traced back to the early 70s with Roxy Music and Bowie, but are there any songs earlier than 1976 that would be considered the first of the genre?
