Had my consultation with Dr. Bastian today. Getting the procedure tomorrow.
I'm been a no-burper since I was born. The closest thing to it was projectile vomit when I was a baby. About 10 years ago after searching online, I was taught the force burp method using a finger to gag yourself. It worked some of the times, often times made my body feel overworked trying to gag, and sometimes even led to light vomiting and at any point very red eyes/extreme saliva.
I had my consultation today. When I met Dr. Bastian, I talked with him a good bit about my issues and that he understood what it was like. He then put a camera down my nose and into my throat all the while he was asking me to make noises so that he can work the camera further. At that point, he asked me to eat this apple sauce tainted with blue liquid and drink blue water tainted with the same liquid to move the camera further and to study what happens. The whole procedure lasted about 5 minutes and wasn't painful. It was uncomfortable at first, but more so when he got deeper to which it seemed like it was the end.
He explained how my GI who had me do a barium swallow wouldn't realize that I had issues with my sphicture releasing coming up rather than down like food.
The cost for the consultation wasn't bad for me. $40 co-pay. I got an estimate for the procedure tomorrow which estimates only $538. On top of that, I paid $650 for a hotel for 2 nights and 2 flights with Virgin for myself and my friend who I am going to be released to.
I'll revise this with more details between tomorrow and when I get back on the actual procedure and also progress updates etc. I know the above is a rough draft of the story and I'll come refine it later.
