If there is only one consciousness and that consciousness chooses to experience itself...

If there is only one consciousness and that consciousness chooses to experience itself in so many different people and that consciousness is the purest, most intelligent and real thing that exists, why do people choose such bad things for themselves?

Why do they listen to such bad music and are so stupid?
Why are they homeless?
Why do they smoke and take drugs?
Why do they hate each other and fight wars?
Why do they kill each other?
Why are they jealous and full of ego and hate and everything else?
Why are they SO UGLY AND INELEGANT?
