Does anyone else feel that Spellfire Sorcery is a little... confusing as a concept?
Ok so just a disclaimer, I have not play tested this class in the most recent UA, so I don't really have too much knowledge on the subclass mechanically, but as a concept I think this subclass is a little confusing and feels a little redundant compared to other sorcerer subclasses. So, the premise of this subclass is that the sorcerer itself is connected to the Weave, and can absorb magic to gain the following powers:
-Fire Spells (Scorching Ray, Wall of Fire, ect.) and Fire Damage
-Radiant Spells (Guiding Bolt) and Radiant Damage
-Healing Spells (Cure Wounds, Lesser Restoration, ect.)
-Flight
So, by listing these powers out, it seems like a lot of these are what Sorcerer can do as a base class already does (Fire Magic, Flight, connected to the Weave) and what it doesn't do, Divine Soul Sorcerer does instead (Healing, Radiant Damage). I know that Spellfire was a 2e concept, long before subclasses existed in the state in which they do in 5e, but I feel like this subclass either needs a kind of distinct playstyle to separate it (personally, I would like it to lean more into the defensive features of the subclass, like the 6th level feature), or to be published as is, where it feels like it does everything and is fundamentally boring flavor wise. Let me know what you guys think, I possibly could be just missing the point of this subclass.
