Switching from employee to independent contractor - is 30% salary increase enough?
Hi all, I’m effectively getting laid off but am being offered an independent contractor position for a 30% increase in what my salary was. I live in NJ. Health insurance won’t be a big issue because I can go on my spouses plan. But between other benefits I’ll lose (401k match, taxes) is 30% enough to essentially break even and make the same as I made before? There is no room for negotiation so I either have to take it or find employment. Not sure how much it matters but I’m 30.
