Who will be the Conservative nominees in Richmond?

All eyes in Richmond are pretty much are on Miao and Bains's likely replacements.

The election hasn't been called yet so no formal campaigning can begin, but websites have slowly started popping up for Conservative Party members to support nomination campaigns for Richmond's two (adjusted) ridings.

  • Chak Au is a current Richmond city councillor since 2011 and a Richmond school trustee from 1999-2011. He is also a volunteer and advocate for diversity. He previously ran as a candidate for the BC NDP in the former riding of Richmond South Centre during the provincial election in 2017 (after not securing the nomination for the BC Liberals). His top priority is preventing supervised consumption sites (he also is against cannabis legalization and cannabis stores opening in Richmond).

  • Zach Segal works in commercial real estate. He is a former public servant in National Defence and Transport and has a couple of volunteer and advisory positions listed on his website. His top priority is affordability.

  • Sheldon Starrett is a sommelier. He previously ran in the 2022 civic election. He is outspoken on his opposition to temporary modular housing and supportive housing projects in the city. This, along with cracking down on drug laws, which he says are connected, are his top priorities.

  • David Wang is a consultant and corporate strategist. He has previously worked on campaigns for Alice Wong, former MP for Richmond Centre. His top priorities are tax reform, housing availability and a crackdown on drugs.

Richmond East -- Steveston (click for map)

  • Kenny Chiu is a software developer. He is the former MP for Steveston-Richmond East (2019-2021) and a former Richmond school trustee. He claims he lost his re-election campaign in 2021 due to foreign interference from China. His top priorities are a crackdown on drugs and immigration reform.

  • Indy Panchi is a real estate agent and investor. I wasn’t able to find much on his community involvement in the city, and his priorities appear to be pretty much the same as Poilievre’s at large.

  • Wai Young is a consultant and small business owner whose work contributed to community non-profits. She is a former MP for Vancouver South (2011-2015) and the Conservative nominee for the riding in 2015 and 2019. Her top priorities are public safety and local infrastructure development.

Note: I’m not affiliated with the CPC, nor do I actually support them. I’m just a research-savvy uni student procrastinating on his work lol
