Is there an end to coughing-induced vomiting? Looking for advice.
Hi all, my 2.5 year old has been sick for about a month now. It started with pink eye, then after Xmas it morphed into what we recently found out is pneumonia AND enterovirus (rhinitis according to my doctor). He’s on day 3 of antibiotics for the pneumonia. He’s had a horrible, wet cough for almost 3 weeks now. And it got much worse the day we found out he had pneumonia in that he vomits with coughing fits. It’s obviously worse at night as ailments always are but also because of his lying down. He’s been waking up in the middle of the night every night for the past 5 consecutive nights coughing and subsequently vomiting in his crib. We are beyond exhausted and see no end in sight. I know we can’t give him coughing medicine - and this is really the only issue. He drinks water / fluids, has a bottle of water in his crib, we literally have to hold him down while the other forces honey in his mouth and that makes him cry and scream which causes more coughing and throwing up so honey is not an option either. We’ve managed to get some natural stuff into him (Zarbees) which is basically elderberry syrup and that doesn’t help.
We’re already at our wits end. Where I live it’s not easy to get in to see a doctor or nurse (we have the worst healthcare system in my country). And since there’s no medicine for coughs for kids I don’t think there is much they can do.
Looking for any advice if you’ve had experience with this. And also sorta venting.
