Wuzhen-Seems like a good choice for a trip around Shanghai
I recently took a trip to Wuzhen and spent most of my time hanging out in the West Scenic Zone (Xizha). Wanted to share my experience and hear if anyone else has been there or has tips for future visits.
First off, the scenery is gorgeous. The canals, old bridges, and traditional buildings really give you that classic water town feel. Walking around during sunset was amazing – the lights reflecting on the water made everything look magical and perfect for photos.
There’s always something to do in Xizha. I enjoyed boat rides, caught a few live performances, and checked out some local crafts. The food was pretty good too – I tried the white-water fish and qingtuan (sweet green rice balls) and they didn’t disappoint.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. One thing that was a bit annoying was that the official map doesn’t have any English. It made finding the way around a bit tricky at times.
Also, Xizha can get really crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. If you’re not into large crowds, you might want to plan your visit for a weekday or go early in the morning. Prices for food and souvenirs were a bit higher than I expected, so just keep that in mind when budgeting.
Overall, Wuzhen Xizha is a beautiful place with plenty to offer, but it’s not perfect. If you like lively spots with lots to see and do, you’ll probably enjoy it. Just be prepared for the crowds and the language barrier with the maps.
