Avocados in personal item?

I have a flight from Orange County to Northwest Arkansas with a stop in Houston. My ticket doesn’t allow carry on, only checked bag and my personal item. Am I allowed to take 6 avocados in my personal bag, or is the checked bag a safer bet? I can’t find an answer to this specific question anywhere. Please and thank you to whoever sees this.
