Smart home devices on 2.4ghz verizon home internet

So I went to Verizon to consider getting the home internet and they stated that the internet is routed thru the same SSID for both 5 and 2.4gz. In the past I had an issue with spectrum when they gave their own new router that did something similar and there was no way to rename the channels. This essentially broke all of my smart plugs, smart lights, Google homes, and everything else that requires the 2.4ghz connection. I had to purchase my own router to make things work again.

I've read that FiOS gives you the ability to rename things and split the routes but not for the 5g/4glte service. For any of you that have this service, do your smart home devices work? Did you have to jump thru hoops to get it working? It seems like every youtuber that reviews this device doesn't have a single smart device that requires the 2.4gz. And everything on google is just fios support.
