Help with decision paralysis - Kia Seltos or Subaru Crosstrek

Hive mind, could use your wisdom. I need to get a car that works both for an elderly parent -- easy to get in/out, safe, easy controls, small size -- and to teach a teen to drive. We have a kia sorento and like it a lot, have been strongly considering a 2021/22 Kia Seltos in one of the higher trim levels so it has all the safety features. But also tempted by a 2018-ish crosstrek for its crash safety and the fact that they seem to last forever. Our budget is under 20K so can't go newer than around a 2018. We could get a low-mileage Seltos or a medium-mileage Crosstrik.

And my brain has just stopped working -- I've looked at roughly eleven billion listings and they're now all a blur. We need easy, reliable, safe, and affordable. Between the Crosstrek and the Seltos, any strong opinions? I know about the Seltos engine issues, have even looked at listings where the engine has already been replaced on the theory that they'd then be good to go. Send me your knowledge, oh car reddit, so I can move on to a new, more interesting dumpster fire. Thanks!
