Ubiquitous Man : How successful can he be ?
An introduction to our subject. Ubiquitous Man (UM for short) is a Caucasian male born in a modest (but not poor) American family, in our regular world in the early 2000's. He is of average build and physical capabilities, with a higher-than-average (smart but not genius) IQ. However, there is this peculiar thing : he can be in two places at once. Here are the technicalities :
- 1 body. When UM starts using his ability, he can desync his body, which begins alternating at near-infinite frequency (too fast for any fluid dynamics to cause wierd shit). This means he can start traveling in two different directions at the same time through otherwise normal means ; he cannot skip distances by teleporting, he isn't moving between the two spots, he hasn't superspeed. He has one perfectly normal body, in two places. This extends to his clothes if he so wishes.
This means any danger to him in one place is a danger to him as a whole.
- 1 mind. UM experiences the full sensory input in both places. His mind can process this without ill effects. This means he can entertain two conversations at once, learn two things at once, etc. Since his ability can be consciously activated, he can also consciously stop using it at any time, though not faster than at average human reflexes. UM chooses in which of the two places he gets to stay. If turning unconscious while in use, the ability stops and UM's destination is a coinflip. If UM is transporting two sets of clothes, he leaves behind the clothes he wore at the place he stopped being at.
UM cannot do this while sleeping, and he needs the same sleep amount as any person would.
UM is able to do this since birth. His parents know his secret, but he can pass off as twins to anybody else unless he makes a mistake. Now that the stage is set, which heights of wealth, power and/or fame can UM attain with his rather unique ability ?
