Well camouflaged, taking a nap in the afternoon sun: a female mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)
At first glance, I didn't even notice this duck on the other side of the pond. Of course you can see it clearly in this photo. But I still find it fascinating how well camouflaged the plumage is. To my shame, I must admit that I had always somewhat ignored the mallards because of how common they are. Fortunately, since I got my new camera, I have taken photos of them several times and am always fascinated by their beauty. I like not only the male with the shiny green head feathers, but also the female with her beautifully patterned plumage.
Shot with a Canon EOS R5 MarkII and a RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM lens in the Örmis nature reserve in Illnau, Switzerland.
