Newbie requesting assistance
Emphasis on my being very new to this. I don’t have the right vocabulary and am very ignorant to all of this but am hoping to learn.
I’m currently on maternity leave and have always liked wine but now that I have more time, I’m starting to want to expand my horizons and learn to appreciate wine more than just as something to drink.
My wine journey is plain and generic. It started with rosé. I most recently ventured into red wine, more specifically, Chianti or a red blend. I liked that these seemed to have more depth and flavor than the rosé. Is this because it’s a red wine vs rose or is it because I’m choosing a grocery store rose? Is it only red wines that have this flavor?
What wine would you suggest for me? I’m going to try my best to use the right terminology, but I’m very sleep deprived and naive. I tend to like Chianti but sometimes feel like it dries my mouth out too much (too many tannins?). I’d like one that I don’t have to worry about pairing with food, I can enjoy it alone. If it’s too sweet, I tend to drink it too fast and am not able to try to taste and understand what I am actually drinking. Something very dry will allow me to take the time to slow down and admire the profile. I prefer something that feels (heavier?). I’m willing to expand from these preferences. I know this is laughable, but my most recent bottle was a ménage a trois midnight blend and I liked that it seemed to have more flavor than the soft red blend.
