I'm annoyed at how people talk about WoW classic in youtube videos and retrospectives.
Whenever channels that aren't about WoW discuss wow's history, they ALWAYS talk about how classic wow was like the greatest thing of all time. The people wanted it, it was said they didn't want it, then they gave it to them and it was a masterpiece 10/10 the best WoW ever made, brought WoW back, everyone played it, everyone loved it, nothing wrong ever and ever, retail sucks and is for babies, classic is for REAL GAMERS etc etc...
Where, from my perspective. WoW classic was something that most people played for exactly one month before the reality of it settled in. New players who never played classic tried it, thought it was interesting but got bored really quickly and left. And old returning players were horrified at how trivially easy it actually was now that they have decent internet and aren't playing an MMO for the first time.
And after all the old players blazed through all the content at record paces, they went into speedrunning the entire game, making it INCREDIBLY hostile to new players to the point people were being kicked out of easy as piss dungeons if they didn't have THE most optimal class, race, armour, weapons, trinkets, buffs and talents of all time.
Like, it turns out no, most players didn't actually want Classic because, for all that can be learnt from it, for as interesting as it is, it turns out it's really easy and boring for the vast majority of people. So then they make hardcore classic which only turned away new players EVEN more, or just anyone who wasn't playing at space engineering levels of optimization.
Maybe I'm just being a silly billy but I feel wow classic gets way too much credit. I think the game's better for having it than not, but it's not the second coming of Christ like some people present it as.
