Can't download game I purchased

I bought Ninja Gaiden Black for $5 on the Xbox website cause of the sale, but when I go to download it on Xbox 360, it gives an error. I thought even if the OG servers shut off, you can still purchase backwards compatible games on the modern Xbox store and download them through your download history.
