2025 Canadian Birkebeiner Thread

Less than a week away from the Canadian Birkie!

Wondering if anyone is going, what their goals are and what they're thinking for wax?!

Looks like conditions will be relatively cold but not into the polar territory.

Right now it's looking like -17 overnight and a high of -14 during the day. Should be mostly old snow. So pretty much as cold as you can go for waxes. On the east side of the rockies in Alberta it seems like snow is pretty much as dry as it gets.

Kick wax should be easy, probably Vauhti Super Base with VP30 ontop, maybe VP40 if it warms up compared to current estimates a bit but kick shouldn't be a problem.

Glide also shouldn't be too complicated, but I'm wondering what people have found the most success with in terms of cold dry conditions.

Probably and iron-in base (either hardwax like HS5/Start Green or powder like Rode R1p). Anything on top of that?

Is something like Star Next Durable Liquid going to help at all or just slow things down? What fleece applied blocks like Swix TST5 or Star Polar? Has anyone found they add speed over a hard base?

Will it be worth looking at structure for classic skis in these conditions? Or, given the lack of moisture is that just an invitation to pick up debris/other skiers kick wax and slow things down over the 55km.
