New GYH System Install
Purchased my third-ever system from Goodyard Hair. Hollywood 8x6” hybrid - poly perimeter and French lace top/hairline. I had to order via their WhatsApp and paid via PayPal, which felt sketchy at first, but honestly went really smoothly. They answered all my questions about sizing, bleached knots (at the hairline only), and returns/exchanges. They even checked in after it was delivered verifying I got it, which was a nice touch.
I cut the excess poly/lace in front of the hairline myself on a mannequin, then had the unit installed at a local wig shop yesterday as I needed to widen my balding area a touch. Then I went to my barber this morning and had him cut the hair. I left not feeling very pleased bc it still looked super fake, but after coming home, showering with a deep shampoo/condition, and styling it, I think it looks significantly better.
I believe the hairline is passable, and really only noticeable if you get super close-up and can see the lace. If I used liquid adhesive over tape, I feel it’d be damn near invisible! I use walker lace front (blue) for the hairline and walker extenda bond tabs on the PU perimeter.
My one and only complaint really is the density. GYH said Hollywood is 120%, and my last unit was 90% (Lavigne Helios Swiss lace). I really think less (density) is more when it comes to a HS. However, being half the cost of Lavivid makes it worth it to me. Plus it should last longer being a hybrid 🤞🏻
One thing I’ve always struggled with is keeping a HS conditioned. This one is super soft and feels like natural human hair rn. I know the longer time goes on, the more it’ll dry out, fade, and shed (hopefully that shedding will help with density 😅). How do y’all keep a system conditioned long-term? LIC or argan oil? How frequent? Any tips/tricks?
FWIW: I usually use LIC every 2-3 days and argan oil a couple times a week, and sleep in a silk hair cap. I only shampoo/condition it about twice a week, one of those being my weekly maintenance.
Thanks y’all, I love this community and have learned so much from everybody. I love wearing a HS and the confidence it gives me back! 💙
