HELP! How can I get consistent, Non frizzy curls without a shiny or oily look!
Hey everyone! I could use some advice on managing my 2C-3B curls (pics attached!). I’ve been struggling to get consistent results, with the sides and back often poking out as straight pieces, making my hair look uneven. I also have a hard time controlling frizz, and many products leave my hair looking too shiny or oily—I’m aiming for a matte, fluffy look with defined curls.
Routine:
Shampoo & Conditioning: I use SheaMoisture shampoo every 3 days and conditioner daily. I focus on keeping my curls hydrated, especially at the ends. Styling Products & Application Technique: I use Camille Rose Curl Love as my curl cream. I rake it through my hair backwards for even distribution, then scrunch and finger coil to encourage curl formation. For gel, I’ve tried options like Mielle and Camille Rose Curl Maker. They help a bit with curl definition but often leave a shiny finish that I’m not a fan of.
Drying Method: After applying product, I dry my hair with a cotton T-shirt to remove excess moisture and then diffuse with a hair dryer. Main Challenges:
The sides and back often stay straight or poke out, making the shape look uneven. My curls look different day-to-day: sometimes defined, sometimes frizzy, sometimes heavy with product.
I’m looking for ways to reduce frizz without adding shine, and ideally get more consistent, soft, matte curls that hold for a couple of days. If anyone has product or technique recommendations for a matte, non-greasy look and more even curls, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks so much!
The last picture is how I wanted it to look and the fluffy curls.
