Is this a gray willow (salix atrocinerea)? Two of these are growing in my garden in New York State. I'd transplant them if they were native, but this looks like an invasive tree. I want to make sure before I destroy them.

Cleaning up a weedy foundation bed and this was hiding under a now destroyed invasive honeysuckle, also totally in the shade of a beautiful huge smoketree which I cut back to let in more light. Is this a squashberry bush? How do I care for it if it is? Zone 6, western NYS

It really doesn't take much time or plants to start seeing cool insects visiting native plants. I have lost count of the different dragon flies this year. The one in this picture was monstrous. From this morning in NYS Asclepias incarnata and monarch caterpillar. First caterpillar I've seen but I'm sure there are more. If they have been eaten, that's just how the food chain goes. I resisted the urge to "rescue" this little guy today, but I hope he makes it!

This lovely lady has been flitting around my garden, finding and laying eggs on all the Swamp Milkweed plants (both flowering and too immature to flower). Tomorrow my neighbor's lawn company is coming to spray poison all over their yard. I'm hoping these eggs survive the potential overspray. Western

Another use for untrimmed swamp milkweed: this bird was quite entertaining as it yanked the stems apart for nesting material with a mate watching close by! Some sort of blackbird? I couldn't get a video before it flew off with it's twigs. I'm in western NY.
